View selected clips from the film PUNISHMENT IN AMERICA, narrated by Bryan Stevenson. This is the second film in the series for the Equal Justice Initiative, featured in the inaugural exhibition of the recently launched Legacy Museum.
This film focuses on the brutal punishments and violent constraints on freedom that have been inflicted upon Black Americans from 1619 to present day. It chronicles this devastating legacy over the course of four centuries, from the barbaric practices faced by enslaved Black people, to the atrocities of the convict-leasing program, all the way through present day where the US has the highest rate of incarceration in the world.
